I'm absolutely thrilled to finally share with you the spring collection of Oliver + S patterns! This season, we're introducing two brand-new styles, and I know many of you will be delighted to hear that the first one is designed for both boys and girls.
The Parachute Polo + Sweatpants pattern comes loaded with options. It features pattern pieces for a boy's polo shirt in both short and long sleeves, along with a girl's polo shirt that also comes in short and long sleeves. Plus, there are some fantastic sweatpants included too.
Let me walk you through the differences between the boy’s and girl’s polo shirts. The boy's polo is slightly longer, with wider and less fitted sleeves. On the other hand, the girl's style boasts a smaller armhole and a more fitted sleeve. The short sleeve is also shorter on the girl’s version, giving it a more feminine silhouette.
This pattern is full of amazing details. The continuous inset woven button placket, one-piece woven collar, optional chest pocket, and side vents will ensure your finished shirt looks incredibly professional. And trust me, you'll find this pattern surprisingly easy to sew!
Now, let's talk about the sweatpants. They're packed with awesome features, like a contrast-color side panel that I think looks like a racing stripe. You can play around with this detail—add a ribbon or cut it from a piece of woven fabric to mix up the design. The sweatpants also have an elasticized waist, which is a must-have, and they come with an optional drawstring and elastic cuffs.
I can't wait for you to see the different colorways. For example, sweatpants don’t always have to be gray—they can be any color you fancy.
Here are some more photos to give you a better idea of what these garments look like:

S has been absolutely smitten with her Parachute ensemble. As she's growing so quickly, I've already had to make her a longer pair. (We adjusted the sizing after seeing how well these fit her.) She’s been wearing hers to and from ballet class, and they became her go-to outfit this winter. They’re perfect for gym class and even look stylish enough for school. I love it when she pairs them with her patent leather school shoes—it reminds me of how I sometimes wear dressy sweats with men's brogues. Today, we were a matching duo.
I think it’s only fair to show you this outfit in action. Capturing a three-year-old boy on camera is no small feat. But if you’ve got active boys, you know exactly what I mean.

And just for fun, here’s an outtake from one of the photo shoots. He’s got incredible balance, doesn’t he? (Not really, but I managed to snap him in mid-fall. That’s why I was crouched in the corner!)

When it comes to fabric recommendations, you’ll definitely want to use knits for this pattern. Jersey or interlock would be ideal for the polo, while French terry or cotton fleece are great for the sweatpants. A lightweight woven fabric works best for the placket, collar, and pocket, but if you prefer using knit fabrics for those parts, that’s totally fine too. I chose woven because it’s easier to handle and less bulky. At Oliver + S, we encourage you to experiment and personalize your projects. Our goal is to provide you with a solid foundation, and you can take it from there to make it uniquely yours.
I hope you’re as excited as I am to sew this pattern! It will be available for purchase on our website early next week, and you’ll have the option to buy it in both paper and digital formats.
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need help. Happy sewing!
