introducing the parachute polo + sweatpants sewing pattern
I’m absolutely thrilled to finally share the spring collection of Oliver + S patterns with you! This season, we’ve introduced two brand-new styles, and I know many of you will be overjoyed to hear that one of them is unisex—perfect for both boys and girls.
The Parachute Polo + Sweatpants pattern is packed with endless possibilities. It features pattern pieces for a boy's polo shirt in both short and long sleeves, along with a girl's polo shirt that comes in short and long sleeves as well. Plus, there’s a fantastic set of sweatpants included.

So, what sets the girls' and boys' polo shirts apart? The boys' version is slightly longer, with wider and looser sleeves, giving it a more relaxed fit. On the other hand, the girls' style boasts a smaller armhole and a more tailored sleeve. The short-sleeve version for girls is also a touch shorter, offering a more feminine silhouette compared to the boys' style.
This pattern isn’t just about style—it’s packed with thoughtful details. The continuous woven button placket, one-piece woven collar, optional chest pocket, and side vents ensure your finished garment looks professional and polished. Honestly, I think you’ll find this pattern surprisingly easy to sew!

Now, let’s talk about the sweatpants—they’re nothing short of amazing. One of their standout features is the contrast-color side panel, which gives them a sleek, sporty vibe. You can play around with this detail by adding a ribbon or cutting it from woven fabric to customize your design further. The sweatpants also include an elasticized waist, with an optional drawstring and elastic cuffs at the ankles.

As for fabric recommendations, you’ll definitely want to use knits for this pattern. Jersey or interlock fabrics are ideal for the polo shirts, while French terry or cotton fleece work beautifully for the sweatpants. For the placket, collar, and pocket, we suggest using a lightweight woven fabric. However, if you’d prefer to use knit fabric for those parts, that’s completely fine! I chose woven fabric because it’s easier to handle and results in a cleaner finish without bulk. At Oliver + S, we love seeing how makers personalize their projects, so feel free to experiment.

My daughter S is absolutely head-over-heels for her Parachute ensemble. She’s growing so fast that I’ll need to whip up another pair soon! (We adjusted the sizing after seeing how well these fit her.) She’s been rocking hers to and from ballet class, and they became her go-to outfit this winter. They’re perfect for gym class and stylish enough for school too. I love it when she pairs them with her patent leather school shoes—I sometimes wear dressy sweats with men’s brogues, so today we matched.

I think we need to show you this outfit in action, don’t you agree? Photographing three-year-olds is no joke—they move faster than lightning! But if you have active boys, you already know that.

Here’s another shot, complete with a little artistic flair. Pretending to land the parachute jump? I think it goes something like this…

And just for fun, here’s an outtake from one of our photo sessions. He may not have perfect balance, but he sure knows how to keep us entertained!
