Hello friends! I hope you had a great time following along with the Hollywood Trousers sew-along! I’d absolutely love to see how your versions turn out, and remember that the sew-along is always here whenever you're ready to dive back in—especially if life got in the way this time around. Yesterday, I went fabric shopping for my dream pair of creamy-white wool Hollywood Trousers, but all I could find were poly-wool blends. So, for now, they'll have to wait. (Don’t worry—I still have plenty of other pairs to wear while I patiently search for the perfect fabric.) Since the sew-along has wrapped up, I thought I’d share two super easy and quick Neighborhood raglan tops I’ve been working on recently. First up is a lightweight striped jersey fabric that S and I picked up at Mood New York last summer. We both fell in love with it, so we grabbed a few yards. To create this version, I paired the View A sleeves with the View B body. I also skipped the hem bands, adding about three or four extra inches to the body length to compensate. For a slightly oversized, slouchy vibe, I sewed a medium instead of my usual small. Oh, and I made the neckband a bit narrower. Love those extra-long sleeves! For some added fun, I hemmed this top in red thread, inspired by Shelley’s faux flatlock tutorial. Unfortunately, I couldn’t loosen my stitches enough to make them as invisible as I hoped, but I adore the effect and plan to experiment with it more in the future. Moving on to the second Neighborhood top, I made this one in a lovely linen sweater knit. If you've ever wondered what to do with sweater knits, here’s your answer! This particular linen has a fine gauge and feels quite stable compared to others. S spotted a chunkier sweater knit in my stash the other day and suggested we use it for a faux leather shoulder version she’s been eyeing. If and when I get to it, I’ll definitely show you! There are plenty of projects waiting in line for her, including some faux leather leggings similar to mine, so who knows when that will happen. For this version, I used the View A sleeves with the View B body, keeping the hem bands intact. This meant there weren’t many changes to the original design. These tops come together incredibly fast, and the striped tee has quickly become my go-to outfit. Though I suspect S might try to “borrow” it the moment I step away! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my sewing projects. Fabric shopping can be such a thrill, even when things don’t go exactly as planned. Until next time, happy sewing! Cheers, Liesl P.S. I'm always on the lookout for more sweater knits. If you spot something great at your local store, let me know!
