A delegation from Pakistan recently met with Cemalettin Damlaci, the Secretary of Foreign Trade, and Ankara MP Burhan Kayaturk, who also serves as the head of the Turkey-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group. The discussions focused on the potential imposition of anti-dumping duties by the Turkish government on imports from six countries, including Pakistan, particularly in the textile sector.

During the meeting, the Turkish officials assured the Pakistani delegation that no decisions would be made that could unfairly harm Pakistan's economy. The Pakistani representatives presented several arguments to persuade the Turkish side against imposing such duties, emphasizing that Pakistani exporters have not engaged in any dumping practices. They further argued that these tariffs could negatively impact Turkish industries that rely heavily on imported raw materials, thereby affecting local value-added sectors.

The Turkish authorities expressed serious consideration of the Pakistani concerns and reiterated their commitment to avoiding actions that might harm the bilateral economic relationship. They explained that the current stage is only an analytical phase, and it may take 8 to 9 months before a final decision is reached. However, they emphasized that the process will be transparent and open to dialogue. The meeting highlighted the importance of maintaining strong trade relations between the two nations amid ongoing global economic challenges.

Both sides agreed to continue communication and maintain a constructive approach in addressing trade issues. This visit reflects the growing cooperation between Turkey and Pakistan in ensuring fair and sustainable trade practices.
