Turkey will impose taxes on textile fabrics imported from six countries
A delegation from Pakistan recently met with Cemalettin Damlaci, the Secretary of Foreign Trade, and Ankara Member of Parliament Burhan Kayaturk, who also serves as the head of the Turkey-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group. The discussions focused on the potential imposition of anti-dumping duties by the Turkish government on imports from six countries, including Pakistan, particularly concerning textile fabrics.
During the meeting, the Turkish officials emphasized their commitment to ensuring that any decisions made would not unfairly harm the Pakistani economy. The Pakistani delegation presented several arguments to persuade the Turkish authorities against imposing these duties, stating that Pakistani exporters have not engaged in dumping practices. They further argued that such taxes could negatively impact Turkish industries that rely heavily on imported materials, thereby affecting value-added sectors within the country.
The Turkish side expressed strong consideration for the Pakistani concerns and reiterated their intention to avoid any measures that could unjustly affect Pakistan's economic interests. They clarified that the current stage is only an analytical phase and that it may take approximately 8 to 9 months before a final decision is reached. However, they assured the delegation that the process will be transparent and open to dialogue. This ongoing engagement reflects a constructive approach to resolving trade-related issues between the two nations.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular communication throughout the process, ensuring that Pakistan's voice remains heard and that any potential trade barriers are addressed through cooperation rather than confrontation. The meeting underscored the importance of bilateral relations and mutual economic interests in shaping future trade policies.
